My First Book Review!
On my journey to grow as an author I have decided to read more. Don't get me wrong I love to read and have since I was five, but as I have gotten older and life has taken over I have put reading on the back burner. I may read a book here and there but for the most part I have neglected my wonderful books.
So I made a promise myself to read a book a week. I know that doesn't sound like much but I'm trying to be realistic and not overdue it, especially with work, me writing several books and taking care of my family.
The first book which I have read is Caraval by Stephanie Garber and yes this is my bookstagram photo!
Scarlett has never left the tiny island where she and her beloved sister, Tella, live with their powerful, and cruel, father. Now Scarlett’s father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval, the far-away, once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show, are over.
But this year, Scarlett’s long-dreamt of invitation finally arrives. With the help of a mysterious sailor, Tella whisks Scarlett away to the show. Only, as soon as they arrive, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval’s mastermind organizer, Legend. It turns out that this season’s Caraval revolves around Tella, and whoever finds her first is the winner.
Scarlett has been told that everything that happens during Caraval is only an elaborate performance. But she nevertheless becomes enmeshed in a game of love, heartbreak, and magic with the other players in the game. And whether Caraval is real or not, she must find Tella before the five nights of the game are over, a dangerous domino effect of consequences is set off, and her sister disappears forever.
Welcome, welcome to Caraval . . . beware of getting swept too far away.
I was excited to read this because I had heard so much about it, not to mention the synopsis sounds exciting. When I started reading this it grabbed my attention but it failed to hold it. I thought the story dragged and it was actually kind of boring at one point. I had to force myself to keep reading and eventually it did get a little interesting.
There were some ooohs and ahhs but it wasn't what I expected. I am going to read the second book just because I had already bought but I won't be in a rush to read it. I do recommend you try it for yourself because of course this is just my opinion.
I give this book a 2 out of 5 stars.
